The purpose of Browns Point Radio is to provide media exposure for music, ideas and important community information that is under-represented and yet important to our area. Browns Point Radio serves our community by providing; • A diverse selection of music programming. • Local public affairs programs that focus on important community concerns and issues. • Free public service announcements for local non-profit organizations. • Broadcast of community meetings, events, and other items of community interest. • Emergency information for our local area in the event of a major catastrophe. Our mission is simple; provide residents of Browns Point and surrounding areas with a local, community oriented radio station dedicated to promote awareness of community based organizations and services, empower citizens by providing a forum for a diversity of viewpoints and ideas, and offer an instrument for immediate distribution of important community information in the event of an emergency. Browns Point Radio is building a plan of action in case there is a major catastrophic event in the region. First, the installation of back-up generators so our AM 1700 broadcast can stay on-the-air. Second, give local police, fire and emergency crews the ability to automatically take control of our broadcast to provide immediate and important information to residents on AM 1700. Let's face it; if a major disaster should occur in the puget sound, all of the major media outlets will be focused on the major population centers. There will be very little information specific to our community. This is a good time to remind everyone to keep a portable radio and fresh batteries at hand so you can tune to AM 1700. Get On-The-Air with your own radio show. We would like to hear from anyone who would like to host their own show on Browns Point Radio. Maybe you would like to host a music or talk show, broadcast a local event, church service, community meeting, whatever. This is your Community Radio Station, so get involved! Don't confuse community radio with public radio, such as NPR. Community radio is built on a foundation of local community interests rather than a national or global agenda. While we have listeners around the world via the internet, our programming is 100% focused on serving the needs of our local community. 100% local programming originates from our studio's located in upper Browns Point. This is a new project, so watch as we grow over the next several months. Browns Point Radio is run by volunteers from our community who donate their time and talents to make our broadcast possible. We are neither a non-profit organization or a commercial venture. Rather, we are a community radio project supported by volunteers, listeners, neighbors and sponsors. Browns Point Radio offers FREE announcements to all local community groups, organizations, and individuals who would like to let people know about local meetings, events, and other items of community interest.
